Weight Loss Jab User Credits $8 Gadget for Battling Nausea Side Effect

A woman in Cambridgeshire, England, says a simple acupressure wristband has helped her manage nausea, a common side effect, while using the weight loss medication Mounjaro.

Portia Devine, 35, of Ely, began taking Mounjaro in April 2025 after reaching 203 lbs and struggling with emotional eating. She has since lost nearly 80 lbs, dropping from a UK size 18 to a size 8, but experienced nausea as a side effect of the medication. “They’ve been a lifesaver, and I don’t feel nauseous anymore, they’ve really made a difference,” Devine said of the Sea-Band acupressure bands, which retail for under £8. These bands stimulate the Nei-Kuan acupressure point on the wrist, often used to relieve motion sickness.

Mounjaro, a GLP-1 medication, works by reducing food cravings and slowing stomach emptying, leading to weight loss. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) lists nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, and constipation as potential side effects. While some users have reported hair loss, this is often linked to malnutrition from reduced food intake rather than the drug itself. Devine now follows a diet prioritizing protein and fiber and participates in Pilates and daily walks, costing her approximately $280 per month for medication and check-ups. The increasing popularity of these medications has sparked debate about access and long-term health implications.

Devine reports consistently losing around 2lbs per week and credits the medication with changing her mindset around food. “It’s changed my life – I can’t believe how well it has worked,” she stated. NHS England advises that individuals considering Mounjaro will undergo a thorough discussion of benefits, limitations, and potential side effects with a healthcare professional.

Healthcare professionals will continue to monitor patients on Mounjaro, emphasizing the importance of a balanced diet and regular physical activity alongside medication.
