Multiple Hospitalized After Stabbing Attack on London-Bound Train

Ten people were hospitalized, nine with life-threatening injuries, following a mass stabbing on a train traveling toward London yesterday evening, with counter-terrorism police now assisting in the investigation.

British Transport Police responded to the incident, which occurred on a Doncaster to London King’s Cross train as it approached Huntingdon, a town northwest of Cambridge. Two individuals were arrested at Huntingdon station, approximately 75 miles north of London, according to Cambridgeshire Constabulary, which received the initial call at 7:39 p.m. on Saturday. The “Plato” code – used when responding to potential marauding terror attacks – was initially activated but later rescinded.

Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack, and are urging the public not to speculate. “We’re conducting urgent enquiries to establish what has happened, and it could take some time before we are in a position to confirm anything further,” said Chief Superintendent Chris Casey. The disruption to rail services along the East Coast Mainline is significant, with London North Eastern Railway advising passengers to avoid travel. This incident raises concerns about security on public transportation networks in the UK.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer stated his “thoughts are with all those affected” following the “appalling incident.” Paul Bristow, the mayor of Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, reported hearing of “horrendous scenes” on the train. Further updates will be provided as the investigation unfolds, and authorities continue to assess the situation and gather evidence. Counter-terrorism measures are being reviewed in light of this event.
